![]() It's only Elle's deception, perhaps influenced by alcohol (another sign of guilt, heavy drinking) that takes Bud down. ![]() His style OWNS Beatrix's style when she comes looking for him. There's something undisputably strong about Bud. When he puts Beatrix in the box he says "This is for breaking my brother's heart." There's something undisputably noble about Bud. But it's (almost) what he deserves in his mind, maybe. So exiles himself to the ends of the earth, does the worst job he can think of. And kind of loves being alive, I think, if only for fleeting pleasures. He feels that he deserves to die for what he participated in, but is too cowardly to kill himself. I think the guilt you describe is further why Bud works in a titty bar, and lives alone in a shitty trailer. Bud is leading his brother to believe that he was so vehemently opposed to the attempt on Beatrix that after, he immediately went and sold his sword and walked away from Bill forever. The answer is because the massacre took place in El Paso. Again, we eventually find out this is a lie, so why El Paso? Bud doesn't live near there (since Beatrix walks from here grave in California in one night), he could have said literally any place in the world. This we later find out is a lie, so clearly Bud is only saying this to wound his brother by leading him to believe he sold a priceless gift from his brother for only a couple hundred bucks.Įven more importantly, when pressed by Bill, Bud reveals that he sold the sword in El Paso. Bill asks if Bud has kept up with his sword play, to which Bud remarks that he pawned his Hanzo sword. However the next thing the two brothers talk about is what really leads me to believe that Bud was so opposed to the massacre that he walked away from Bill for good after his participation in the shooting. He knew the massacre was wrong, but he went along with it anyway out of loyalty to his brother. ![]() Bud states that he will not run from Beatrix because she deserves her revenge and he is not one to duck his comeuppance. The first evidence that Bud was against the attempted murder of Beatrix is his response to Bill's offer of assistance. From this exchange, it is my theory that Bud was against the attack on Beatrix's wedding rehearsal and his participation in the massacre marked the breaking point of his relationship with his brother. At the beginning of Kill Bill Vol 2, Bill visits his estranged brother Bud to warn him that Beatrix is coming to exact revenge on the former members of the 5 deadly vipers.
